Strathcona Collective Magazine
Jenn and Ian from ROAM Media launched the CV Collective magazine over ten years ago, and since then have built an inspiring culture that showcases creative writers, photographers, and artists in the Comox Valley.
In 2019, they partnered with us at Boleyn Media to bring a sister publication to the Strathcona region, and the Strathcona Collective was born. Since then, we’ve worked together to publish our beautiful and informative print magazines driven by excellence and a desire to promote local creativity, play, and exploration in our region.
TheCollectiveMags.ca is a new digital space for all our publications to live together, where we can share our stories online and expand our readership far beyond our communities. This website is a place readers can go to explore stories from the past and present, meet incredible people doing incredible things, and discover what makes our regions so beautiful and unique.
This project, like our magazines, is one of love and collaboration. From wireframes to development, we worked closely with the team at ROAM to create a user experience that would encourage readers to “lose themselves” in the stories, discovering something new every time they visit.
We’ve integrated Google Ad Manager so our advertisers benefit from ad placements throughout the website as well, helping these generous local business owners reach new audiences in the digital space.
We’ve created a multi-faceted filtering system that gives readers opportunities to:
- Explore by Region, featuring a customized interactive map on the homepage
- Explore by Topic, find the themes you connect with most
- Explore by Publication, including searching for specific volumes or seasons
- Search Contributors, read their bios and see all their contributions in one place
- Search Covers, rediscover favourite issues by their memorable cover pages
- Find Related Articles, discover relevant stories to inspire deeper reading
We wanted this website to make readers feel the same way our publications do – inspired to create, play, and explore our beautiful regions; and we are proud of what we’ve accomplished together with the ROAM team.
