Tourism Nanaimo

We’ve had the pleasure of working with Tourism Nanaimo on seasonal digital ad campaigns and email marketing initiatives over the past year, which primed us for the opportunity to design and develop their new website!

First of all, shout out to the team at Partners & Hawes on the bold new brand identity they’ve created for Tourism Nanaimo. With their new look and feel in mind, we worked with Tourism Nanaimo’s team to develop a website that showcased their fresh brand.

What’s involved in a project like this?

Web Design (UI/UX):

  • Sitemapping & Restructuring Content: We created an intuitive user experience and smooth flow of information, taking the visitor seamlessly through the user journey from discovery to booking.
  • Detailed Prototypes: Initial design mockups were reviewed collaboratively to ensure alignment with the new branding. These help us visualize the site’s structure and responsiveness, and guide our development team in the site build.
  • Visual & Cognitive Accessibility: Ensured that colours adequately contrast for legibility on different screen sizes, buttons are clear and descriptive, and text is structured to keep things clear and concise.

Web Development:

  • Backend Development: We built a scalable backend to support the site’s functionality with content management systems, including dynamic content management systems for business listings and local event submissions.
  • Media Library: Organized and structured folders for specific visuals so content is easy to find for Nanaimo’s team.
  • Performance Optimization: Implemented best practices for fast load times and smooth navigation, crucial for retaining visitors.
  • Responsive User Interface: Ensuring the website looks and functions correctly across all devices and screen sizes. We enlist the entire Boleyn team in reviewing and supporting this step!

This project had tight timelines, and we’re really proud of what we accomplished, working efficiently with the Tourism Nanaimo team to achieve their priorities and be ready for their public brand launch in May 2024.
