The Challenge
Island Coastal Economic Trust supports community-led investment and economic development across coastal British Columbia, working with communities, governments, First Nations, and regional partners to create lasting prosperity. The Trust needed a new website that would make funding opportunities, investment priorities, projects, outcomes, and impact easier to explore, while giving its team greater flexibility to manage and evolve the site in-house. Boleyn created a more intuitive, accessible, and connected digital experience that helps the Trust tell a clearer story about its impact, communities, and future.

The Tactics
We focused on creating a website where content works together, making the Trust’s work easier to explore, understand, and manage. Every part of the new site was designed to create clear, accessible connections between the Trust’s work and the communities it supports.
Connected Content
We created a structured content system that connects funded projects with the Trust’s investment priorities, impact areas, funding programs, regions, and approval years. These relationships now flow throughout the website, reducing manual entry and creating new pathways to related content. Visitors can now explore funded projects through filters, making it easier to narrow down a large collection of projects and quickly find the information most relevant to them.
Impact at the Forefront
The Trust’s four Impact Areas now anchor the website, connecting Economic Prosperity, Social Empowerment, Climate Resiliency, and Cultural Vitality to the projects and stories that demonstrate the Trust’s collective impact.
Intuitive Content Management
We built flexible page structures and backend tools that allow the Trust’s team to easily create and update funded projects and impact stories. Consistent structures and built-in relationships make it simple to add the right information once and have it work across the site.
Thoughtful Brand Integration
The new website brings the Trust’s recently updated brand to life through a more engaging visual experience, including thoughtful use of three paddle designs representing Kwakwakaʼwakw, Nuu-chah-nulth, and Coast Salish cultural identities. Distinct colours are also used to differentiate the four areas of the Trust’s Wellbeing Impact Framework, helping information feel connected and intuitive for users.
A Platform for What’s Next
The new site also creates space to communicate where the Trust is headed. A dedicated Our Future section brings together information about the work underway to modernize the Trust’s governance, including recommendations, legislative reviews, and collaboration with First Nations, local governments, the Province, and regional partners.
Actionable Analytics
We created custom Google Analytics dashboards to turn the Trust’s website data into clear, easy-to-digest insights. Based on their goals and priorities, the dashboards highlight key website actions, including contact points, PDF downloads, and the filters visitors use to explore funded projects. Built directly into the Trust’s Analytics account, these tools give the team an ongoing view of what matters most to visitors and a useful foundation for future goal setting.

The Results
The new website gives the Trust a more connected and flexible digital platform, making its work and impact easier to explore while giving its team greater autonomy over day-to-day content management. The four Impact Areas now provide a clear entry point into the Trust’s work, with funded projects connected to the priorities, programs, regions, and impact areas they support. Behind the scenes, intuitive content structures make it easier for the team to add, update, and connect content as the Trust’s work continues to grow.
