West Coast Wildflowers is a proud Indigenous woman-owned and operated retail store located on Vancouver Island, BC. They offer a wide variety of local and high-quality products ranging from apparel to moccasins and home decor to quirky greeting cards.
With the goal to elevate the voice of Indigenous artists and values, we were tasked to create an online store that not only celebrates the brand’s commitment to sustainability and community, but also creates a simple and welcoming shopping experience that reflects the same warmth you would get if you were in store.
We started by setting up and reorganizing collections, product tags, and product types so that the brand would have an easier time managing their catalogue. To differentiate the store from other Shopify sites, we utilized a lot custom-coded sections, but set them up in a way that wasn’t intimidating to edit. We also created a How-To document with detailed instructions and tutorials so that even new staff can confidently manage the backend.

As a remote team, we acknowledge that we live and work on the traditional territories of the First Nations, Métis and Inuit Peoples who have cared for this land since time immemorial. Our home office is situated on the unceded traditional territories of the Liǧʷiɫdax̌ʷ people, the We Wai Kai, Wei Wai Kum and Kwiakah First Nations. Our team’s diverse origins as Settlers mean that our individual paths towards reconciliation are guided with both local and global truths about colonization and its ongoing ramifications for Indigenous Peoples everywhere. As we celebrate the diversities that surround us, we continue to educate ourselves and look at how we can contribute to a more equitable future for all.
